Event and change

I came to Canada this summer, which is a really big event that changed me a lot. I determined to come to Canada for summer school at the very beginning of 2011. My sister and parents helped me to find and apply to a summer school. I changed my idea and wanted to stay only two weeks before the ending of the summer school. It changed me and it changed my whole family as well. My parents encouraged me to go to a school in Canada and go to a university in North America after that, even if they were a little sad about “losing” me. Maybe I can’t stay beside my mom and dad in the next years. It’s totally different being in Canada from when I was in China.
I just finished my final exam three days before I got on the flight to Canada. Studying in China isn’t easy work but it’s quite fun to figure out those maths and science questions. My dad or mom cooked meals for the family and sometimes we also went out for dinner as well. I could always be around my dad and mom and they could help me with my studying, although it was getting harder and harder because I was always improving. For myself, I think I was a little shy boy at that time and all my classmates agreed. In addition, I wasn’t so good at sports at that time.
Life in Canada is totally different. School is much easier and more relaxed. After a six-week summer school period, I became more expressive and became better at sports. After that, I came to Uplands. Uplands is more like a summer school instead of a formal school to me. We only have four lessons each day although each lesson lasts a little longer. Meanwhile, I really miss mom and dad. I was able to see them every day when I was in China. They really miss me as well. We often video talk on MSN and QQ, which helps us keep connected. Now, I can see my homestay parents every day. In my opinion, this situation can make me more independent. I think I’m going to show a different me to my mom and dad when I go back to China.

Admire and be different

In my opinion, my dad and mom are brilliant parents. They are efficient, responsible and expressive.
For instance, my dad is able to decide a travel plan in a few hours. Also, he always finishes his work on time and his work is always full of quality. My mom can make awesome power point documents that are helpful for her teaching.
What’s more, mom and dad are both responsible, not only for their child but also for their work. Mom’s and dad’s colleagues think that I’m well educated and I’m a good student. It absolutely shows that they are responsible to me. They also pay lots of efforts to their work, which makes their work always well done. They also show their responsibility to society, which I really admire. They donate money to poor people. They show their love in many ways!
Also, mom and dad are expressive, both in their speaking and writing. My Chinese writing is really terrible. I have never done an essay that is considered as a good essay among my classmates’. Consequently, I really admire that my dad and mom are able to write such brilliant articles. Dad and mom are also good at giving speeches and that they are calm when facing hundreds of people. I already feel nervous when I’m in front of my class.
They are successful as a result of hard work. It’s too hard for them to relax and be carefree. While I admire them, I don’t want to be as busy as they are in the future.

Zodiac

I am analytical. My mom said that I thought everything by using logic. This trait is also be proved by the test I did in planning class. I can also make my arguments very well during the Balloon Debate.
I’m overcritical. In instance, I always want to make pieces in the same shape when I’m cutting something. I won’t feel comfortable if those pieces don’t follow my mind.
I’m diligent. I think I have the ability to control myself. For example, I did really well in the final exam for junior high school so I got an opportunity to go to a good high school.
I am not modest. I’d like to show off my skill and something else. That’s not good. So I’d like to change it.
I am not seemingly shy. Actually, I think I’m still pretend to be expressive. I’m still essentially nervous when I’m giving a speech in front of people.

Sacrifice

I had a better relationship with my dad compared to the relationship with my mom when I was an 8-year-old boy.

My mom told me how it happened.

There was a quotation from my dad, “I’m famous for taking good care of my son.”

My mom told me that she was always cooking at home while my dad was taking me around the residence. Finally, everyone knew that my dad was an awesome dad and no one noticed my mom’s effort including me.

It is quite a bit easier to take his or her child outside compared to cooking so many delicious foods. It was also really sad that she hadn’t been acknowledged as a brilliant mom after paying so much effort. It is also very disappointing that her son complained, “it’s not delicious enough.” Or even worse, “It’s not delicious at all!”

What my mom did was absolutely a sacrifice. How evil and stupid I was.

Mom, I love you!

Balloon Debate

My name is Joseph Stalin. I absolutely need to be alive. I can count 4 reasons easily right now.

Firstly, I’m a hero. How many of you guys can say “I’m a hero” loudly and with strong confidence. I can’t die just because of a small accident on a hot balloon. It can’t be the way a hero dies!

Secondly, the Soviet Union, which is the biggest country in the world, will be full of turmoil because of my death. The USSR is still developing and I need to lead it to overcome western countries. You will be the enemy of all Soviet people if you don’t let me live. You can imagine your condition if you become the foe of millions of people.

Thirdly, how can we fight against the Nazis if I’m dead? You can’t depend on France which has already been defeated. Britain is not powerful enough. America is on another continent. Trust me, we can’t win the warfare without the Soviets. The USSR can’t be powerful enough without Joseph Stalin. Killing me would mean that you connive Nazi Germany to implement as many massacres as they want. You will be known as antihuman.

And as you know, I have a powerful special force. I’m not sure whether Bruce Lee is able to survive with his forceful kungfu if he becomes the target of the special force.

So, be careful! You will be not only be spit on by people all over the world but also killed by my special force. Eventually, you will lose everything if you kill me now.

QUOTATION

Necessity is the mother of taking chances.

In my opinion, the quote means that we have to prepare for those opportunities we’d like to obtain.

For instance, I won’t just pray “god, give me good grades, please” if I want to do well in my examinations. I have to do something useful. I have to go to school, work on my essays and other courses.

I’m following the quote these days. I was considering why everyone is so tall when I was walking through UVic. So I tried to find some methods to be taller. The only way I was able to implement is jumping and hanging up.

I know that it may not work at all but I need to work on the necessity, so there will be a possibility that I can take chances to be taller.

Just make as many efforts as I can and wait for opportunities at the same time.

SUPERPOWER-INSTANT MOVING

This morning, I left my home and went outside.

I said:”Why is it so cold?”

I was tired of going back home and wearing more clothes, so I just kept on going. After a few more paces, I remembered that I forgot my PE shirts, but it was so far from home. So I went on moving towards the bus stop. I found that I forgot my water bottle! Why didn’t I go back home earlier?

If I have instant moving super power, I can get everything I forget as soon as possible. Oh no, as soon as impossible!
CN Tower

I can decide to go to Toronto this weekend if I’m able to move rapidly. I will visit U of T first and then go to the CN tower. I won’t buy tickets, I just move to the pinnacle of the tower.

And then, I can go back to China for lunch.

After that, I'll absolutely go to my school and ask a pretty girl:”Would you like to go to Vancouver together with me for a half day trip? If yes, hug me.”
My high school in Tianjin

So, it would be a brilliant Vancouver trip.

And I can get up at 8:40 on Monday morning. Brush my teeth and wash my face. Then go to Starbucks for a cup of coffee.

I’m pretty sure that I’ll arrive at school before 8:45. Brilliant!

I'm affraid of being bored

I’m really afraid of being bored.

There are two kinds of boring for me.

word word word
On the one hand, I can’t stand the waste of time. I can’t lie in my bed for more than 1 hour and have nothing to do. Otherwise, I’ll be crazy! Victoria is such a relaxing place especially compared to my hometown Tianjin. Not because of the recreation but because of study. It is a little boring and I have nothing to do, but I can’t stop myself doing something! I decided to remember. I could spend hours and hours on it. And it works a lot. I can almost understand what an English passage is talking about now.

On the other hand, I’ll also be bored if I work for a extremely long time. So I need recreation. I always go to Saturday activities on time and I am always trying to find some fun for Sunday. For instance, I went to Goldstream Provincial Park with Kevin on Sunday. That was a super interesting day. (Mentioned in my older post)

I think I am able to overcome being bored. And I can get a lot from it. Not only more words, but also organize my life.

The Sea Otter

The sea otter is a marine mammal with a fat grey body, a small head and small limbs. Its head is white or grey and usually lighter than its body, it lives offshore of the North Pacific Ocean which is really cold.

First of all, it’s a cute animal and everyone is fond of it.

When I was looking at the sea otter, everyone beside me was saying “It’s so cute!” both elders and kids were fascinated. People usually think creatures that are chubby is quite cute. The sea otter fits the condition exactly. Its expression is very funny as well. It seems that it isn’t worrying about anything.

Secondly, it’s very smart.

It’s said “sea otters can hit sea urchins by using stones.” on Wikipedia. They can control the stone really well. I observed that it could hold a piece of ice gently. Its hands are really flexible. When someone was throwing some food to it, it could catch all of them exactly. It’s like someone is throwing branches to you and you can catch all the branches calmly. So you can imagine how hard it is.

Finally, I like the way of its movement.

It was swimming by back stroke. It seems that it could swim easily and it was easily float on the top of the water. But actually, it was holding a piece of ice, it would be impossible! I will fall into the water as soon as possible.

In conclusion, the sea otter is one of my favourite animals. But i would worry about the sea otter at Vancouver Aquarium, it can swim quite fast, but the “swimming pool” for it is so small. It is alone there. Maybe it would feel bored. We need try to make it happy!!

My best memory

Wild Play is one of the best games I have ever played.

Wild Play is made up of trees, platforms, wire ropes, zip lines, many boards and sticks, and other special things. The trees are really straight. There is a platform surrounding each tree. Platforms are connected by wire ropes, zip lines or “bridges” made by boards and sticks. There are also some measurements for safety.

At first, it wasn’t hard for me. It was only 2 metres from the ground. The “bridges” were secure. I could cross them easily. Although it started getting a little higher,  but it was still not so hard.

At the end, there were many zip lines, so it was all the way down. Finally, I reached the ground.

But it was only LEVEL 1!

LEVEL 2 was really scary.

There were bridges in level 2 as well. But it was only a bridge! In level 1, they gave me two ropes beside the bridge. But there were only boards connected by two ropes. So I could only step on and held nothing. I needed to be really careful to keep balance.

That’s not the hardest one. At least all of the boards were connected. There was one made up of sticks. I was scared! But I enjoyed it. All the sticks were separate, so each of them was similar to a swing.

It took me more than 5 minutes to finish it. I was 10 metres from the Earth! I needed to hold on tightly. So my muscles had become soaring ever since the beginning. And i couldn’t look down at the ground. It was the hardest one and it was also the most interesting one.

One of my best memories----Wildplay

A Challenging Time

I went to Goldstream Provincial Park with Kevin last Saturday (Oct,9)

On Saturday, i caught the earliest Number 26 Bus to uptown and met him there. We took the Number 50 Bus to the Langford Exchange.

When we arrived at the Langford Exchange, we found that we had to wait for the Number 58 Bus for more than 40 minutes! So we decided to walk to goldstream.

We were fortunate because Kevin had a GPS on his Smartphone. So we always knew exactly where we were. We followed the way of the Number 58 Bus by walking. We passed Langford Lake. We had a good view there. We went into a garden as well, there were small bridges and flowers below the bridges. We knew that it was better to walk instead of waiting for the bus. At least, we had already visited two places!

Soon, we reached Goldstream Park. We took a few pictures in front of the sign. After that, we walked amidst the forest. We saw a parking place. There was a BBQ place near it. But we didn’t have a car! We weren’t able to BBQ any food. So we took out two bottles of coke from Kevin’s backpack and drank together.

We went on an awesome trail. The trail was all the way through the forest. We found a map at each crossing. We followed the direction and eventually reached the stream. There wasn’t any salmon there! It was a pity. We found there was no more way for us as soon as we were able to touch the clean water. We went backwards.

Everything was tranquil until we heard a strange sound. We were worried about bears. But Kevin finally found that it was a bird. But i couldn’t see it! I missed an opportunity to have a look at the only creature bigger than a insect through the whole journey. Fortunately, it’s not a creature as big as bear.

There was a busy highway next to the park. We crossed it by passing an archway below the bridge around 1 o’clock. We saw a small waterfall and the river was still dry.

We followed the map. But we reached the railway by mistake. We knew that we were lost. We hadn’t got an opportunity to go back to the trail. We just followed Kevin’s GPS. We knew that we could reach a small town by walking through the railway although it was much longer than the trail, but it was safe.

Nothing happened, we walked along the railway.

Suddenly, we saw a small trail maybe someone had walked, we walked down the trail. But the trail became invisible. We thought we could go forward and do some rock climbing. It was so hard! We needed to find stones or branches which ware tough enough. We needed to step on small plants to make sure their spines won’t hurt us.

I said “What are we doing!?”

Kevin answered “Call of Duty8: Modern Warfare 3”

When i was on the railway again, I thought how peaceful it was. But I saw a small white spider which as big as the nail of tomb. And I brushed it off. It’s lucky that neither of us were hurt. We were still two strong young men. We could go on our journey.

We found a road. That was much better than railway! And it was showed on GPS. We knew that we would probably climb a fence, but we decided to try it. The road was really good for walking. But the fence wasn’t. It was even higher than us, and there were barbed wire on it, Kevin did first, he climbed it successfully. Then i threw my bag and his bag over the fence.

“Now, it’s my turn.”I said.

I was really nervous because I couldn’t imagine how could we continue our journey if I hurt myself. And I could hold it with my hand because there were all spines. So i was only able to step on the wire and couldn’t make my feet closer to the ground. So I just jumped. My pants got a little torn and my shirt was a little rip. But at least, we reached the town. We could ask some human beings for help! Thanks god!

A small bus stop for Number 58 Bus was our new destination. There were some teenagers there! They said it was going to the Exchange and the bus would come very soon.

Finally, Number 58 Bus to the Langford Exchange

Number 50 Bus to uptown

Number 30 Bus to Kevin’s home

AND Number 26 BUS TO MY HOME!!!!!

What a nice day!

Movie review:“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”

We saw the movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” last week. It told us Ferris Bueller’s wonderful day together with his girlfriend Sloane and his best friend Cameron. The Chinese name of this movie means “spring isn’t a study day”. I think it’s a fantastic translation.

Once, it is a normal and boring school day when Ferris pretends to be sick in order to skip school. He convinces Cameron to join him and lend him his father’s Ferrari car which is not allowed to use. And then he uses an expedient way to let Sloane skip school.

Their trip begins.

They arrive in downtown Chicago and park the car.  They go to an exclusive restaurant by pretending Ferris is the sausage king of Chicago. They also go to a baseball game and an art gallery. At last, there is a big celebration on the main road of Chicago. There is a group of floats and everyone is excited. No one knows how Ferris can get on those floats and sing some incredible songs and everybody follows him.

Meanwhile, his teacher Rooney is trying to find Ferris at his home. But he is so unfortunate, he gets stuck in the mud, chased by their dog, and even mistake thought as a robber by Ferris’s sister Jeanie. Jeanie kicks him and calls the police to catch him up. He’s a disgusting man with horrible smell when he bumps into the school bus. It’s a really shame day for Rooney.

How is Jeanie? She is so mad with Ferris that he can skip the day easily and still be known as a good boy. She just wants to stop everything what’s happening and prove that Ferris isn’t a good student.

Everyone’s characteristic is quite different from each others in the movie.

Ferris is adventurous and clever. He’s the designer of the day.

The Ferrari GT 250 California
I’d like to talk more about Cameron. He changes a lot during the day. He’s worried about everything, he’s worried about that the school will know that he’s skipping the school, he worries about the car, he worries how his dad is going to deal with him. As I just mentioned, they park the brilliant car in downtown Chicago. But the valets just drive the car for recreation. So the odometer miles go over what they were. He doesn’t know how mad his father will be. We are able to know that Cameron’s father only cares about his car and all his property instead of Cameron and his mom. Cameron find that he needs to be brave and tells his dad what’s important. He says to Ferris, “It’s the best day in my life!” He kicks the car and it’s ruined at last. So he doesn’t need to worry about how many miles it goes anymore. The movie doesn’t show the result, but I think Cameron’s family as well as himself will change a lot.

I haven’t found anything I don’t like in the movie so far. It’s not spectacular as “Avatar”, but I think the plot is awesome.
I will give 95 out of 100 to “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. I like the plot, but I think it might be little fictional. If I was the director, I would make it closer to our real life so that it could be more educational.
